I've got an outcome flashing recovery.

My bootloader is certainly unlocked, I know that for sure.
The get-go time I tried rooting, I did it all in one go and got stuck at this very step. And then I stopped and waited a few weeks. I used the phone, repopulated information technology and everything.
Now I'k coming back to it and I'm attempting to wink recovery via the ADB Command Method and it's simply a mess.

I just need some more than detail on exactly what to exercise later on the Bootloader is unlocked, because I've forgotten what I did before.

Like exact down to what I should run into on my phone and what my computer should be doing -- serious noob here.

    Whatever help is greatly appreciated!

Rxpert, thanks for such a quick reply!

Right, then I've tried the ADB Method.
    A few questions:
This "Android Folder" it mentions to put the recovery.img into, is this located on the figurer, or on the phone? How particular is the location of this binder?

As well, I'grand in the bootloader on the telephone, while it's plugged into the computer during all of this. When it says to "Select Fastboot", do I only highlight it or actually choose information technology then do the right click shift thing?

I saw the footstep by footstep in the guide, I just really need something far more detailed.

The andriod folder is going to be on your estimator. It should contain a file called fastboot.exe. The folder doesnt take to exist called, android, it merely has to contain fastboot.exe and the recovery image your trying to wink.

You lot need to be in fastboot mode ON THE PHONE. when in bootloader there should exist an option for this. highlight information technology and select using power.

If y'all accept everything in the correct folder, you merely need to to practice the shift+right click method on the android folder to open up upwardly a command prompt there, and then copy and paste the code I quoted above

  5. Rxpert83

Ok I did a little picture tutorial. Deplorable they are so pocket-sized I tin re-upload

Hither is an example of my "android" folder. Note its named platform tools hither because I was meddling in evolution for a while. The title of the binder doesnt matter. You but demand fastboot.exe and your recovery.img in the aforementioned folder.

Note, I do non have the recovery in my folder. You volition need it. I too take a lot of crap in in that location you probably wont have

Shift+right click somewhere most the bottom where at that place'southward white space and select open command line.

Later on that all yous need to practice is enter the correct command to flash. Notation: You tin can copy and paste the correct code.

Keep in mine my "android" folder is named differently, so the words in my control prompt may look different. As long as you employ the Shift+right click method to open the command prompt yous will be in the right folder

This prototype may assistance articulate up whats going on:

Crawly Tutorial, and you're my hero. But I'm however snagged.

Few things: I'1000 on Windows XP, and so the shift-right click deal required a workaround. I downloaded a tool and I tin practice information technology successfully though. Not certain if the workaround might touch my success, but I figure it'south worth mentioning.

I accept a folder, named "EVO" with all of the stuff from my original attempt in it, including this "fastboot" file and a newly downloaded "recovery.img"
With my workaround, I take to shift-correct click on the actual binder containing these files - EVO - and then I tin can open up the control prompt and blazon in the code.

So I plugged my phone into the reckoner, plough it off, kick back upwardly into the bootloader, select Fastboot, press the power button, in red the phone says "FASTBOOT USB
THEN I shift right click and blazon in the command. Below is what happens:

Here's an prototype, if information technology's too small, let me know.

I'm non certain what "too many links means? Maybe I should use a less populated binder? Something incorrect on the phone's end?
Thanks over again for all your help Rxpert

  7. Rxpert83

It looks like you have everything setup correctly and correctly entered in the command prompt. And then that is good.

Let me do a little digging to try to find out what that error means

Your bootloader is still unlocked right?

Edit: in the meantime, try information technology a few more times

  8. Rxpert83

Ok I had to hop on an IRC channel, but user yhuh from xda says to employ:
    1. fastboot reboot-bootloader

    then redo the
    1. fastboot wink recovery recovery.img

Alright Rxpert, I've got perhaps a small crisis on my hands.
I tried it a few more times and finally looked over at my phone and it appears to be frozen in fastboot usb.

The ability push and volume buttons don't do anything and the screen is static.
There'south what looks like a light-green progress bar in the top right that's about fourscore% full

Is it okay to take the battery out in this fashion for a hard reset? Or will that certainly brick the phone? Is it practically bricked already?

  10. Rxpert83

Was this during the recovery.img wink?

I don't think it should brick the device if the battery gets pulled, but I'm not sure why it froze. I remember the worst case scenario would exist recovery gets borked, just we are trying to overwrite that anyhow.

If yous pull it def become back into fastboot and do the cache wipe control I suggested above. Mayhap restart your reckoner besides to make sure the drivers didnt lock up

Okay I've got it reset and back into Bootloader. Had a fine scare, there.

Do I run those commands the aforementioned time I was running the other ane? While the telephone is in fastboot?

    Thread Starter

Rxpert, I just tried those commands in fastboot, and all information technology every says is "waiting for device"

Worth noting at this point: I'yard not certain if it's new, but on my bootloader screen there'south a greenish RECOVERYchoice. That isn't proof that it's done is it?

How exactly will I know that it'southward done when information technology'southward washed?

  13. Rxpert83

That should be in that location even in on stock. Y'all can always select it and effort booting into recovery. if you get a crimson triangle with ! thats the stock recovery.

If your stuck waiting for device try reinstalling the drivers

    EDIT:
Convo moved to its own thread to continue things easy to follow.

With multiple bug going on in the dummies thread information technology can be difficult to follow whats going on

  14. Only reading thru this hither, and fwiw, I have had either a "waiting for device" or a "offline" message in adb.
I then used the control, adb kill-server, waited 10 seconds, then adb kickoff-server. The daemon started up, Adb so "saw" my device.
    Rxpert83 and ocnbrze like this.

Thanks for moving our convo Rx!

Okay and so I've restarted the computer, rebooted the phone, and attempted again.

Put the phone in fastboot, shift right clicked my binder, typed in "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img"

and I got the same message: Failed: Also many links.
The same as my previous screenshot.

Then I tried the other commands, clear enshroud and reboot bootloader, and it only says "Waiting for Device"

Also very much worth noting: the phone has frozen once again, merely like earlier. I'll have to do a hard reset to try over again. This appears to happen when I try the control prompt.

EDIT: The phone UNfreezes when I unplug the usb, then comes back alive - even when I plug information technology dorsum in.

  16. I had a look effectually for solutions and some people recommended the post-obit.
When plugging in your device on your pc go to device managers, find android device, and uninstall the drivers.
Unplug your device restart fastboot and connect to your pc once again to reinstall the android drivers. I call up this can as well be done when powered down and plugged into your usb port
The mail service says that this should piece of work. Can't say I've tried this exact method just I have done something similar a while ago and it did solve the effect.
